I made a new friend the other day. We’ve had several wonderful conversations about our families, our faith, about Jesus, our Father God, the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, the faithfulness they’ve shown us, and we’ve also shared some of our struggles in life.

Although we haven’t talked about it in detail, this friend obviously had something happen to her years ago that involved some sin that she hasn’t been able to put behind her. She’s told me several times that she did something that she was not proud of. She hasn’t been able to totally forgive herself because it continues to come up.

I get that. I’ve been there, too. We’re human. We struggle. We sin. And hopefully, we turn to Jesus, ask forgiveness and go forward. That’s what God calls us to do.

He calls us to freedom.

On this July 4th, Independence Day, I believe that God is calling us to really think about our spiritual freedom. He calls us to be independent, if you will, of the sins that we often opt to carry, regardless of the price Jesus paid for them on the Cross. His sacrifice set us free from our sins, totally separated us from them. As far as the east is from the west.

And He remembers them no more just as He calls us to do. If HE’S forgotten our sins, how dare we continue to remember them, call them up, rehearse them and continue to talk about them.

He has set us free and to honor Him and His death and resurrection, we are to walk in that freedom, that total and complete separation and independence from the past that the enemy of our souls would love to continue to rub in our faces!

Today, celebrate in a MASSIVE way, the spiritual freedom that you have been given. If you’ve confessed your sins to Jesus, YOU HAVE BEEN SET FREE! When you see those fireworks tonight, see them as a sign from Him that the work is done. The sin and all its effects are over and behind you. He remembers them no more.

He is celebrating this liberty. It’s time for us to do the same.

“Whom the Son has set free is free INDEED!”

“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

“He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.”

"No matter where you are on your journey of faith, God wants you to be freer. There is always more freedom, more grace, more forgiveness, more mercy, more from God.." These are the moving and very inspiring things and lessons I have known from this Spiritual Freedom by very respectful Father Dave Pivonka T.O.R. I tell you, this is a very motivating text to read.
